HEATING HOMES IN THE HUTT VALLEY
Wainui Firewood is a family run business owned by Tim & Tralee Johnston. While we are new kids on the firewood chopping block we pride ourselves on our product and customer service.
A fire is a focal point in any home, from heating the house, keeping the family warm, heating water, sitting in front of it with a hot cuppa on a winter's day or a glass of red on a chilly evening, there's nothing like a good fire to make a house feel like a home.
Making your home cosy and dry is important to us.
We fell the trees, processes the wood and drive the truck for deliveries.
Tim enjoys every aspect of the firewood business from harvesting the wood, making a good clean product and meeting our happy customers on delivery days.
At this stage we are still harvesting our own trees from our little farm in Moores Valley, If you have unwanted pine, gum or macrocarpa on your property we may be able to help with removal. Please get in touch and we can come have a look.

We sell pine from our 30 year old trees. While pine is a lower density than some other woods by our pine being older it has more resins and gum so is a great burner. It's what we use at home.
You can start a fire easily with pine and when you turn the vents down it simmers away nicely. Burning hot and fast does make for a cleaner fire box and cleaner smoke, but you will use more wood.
The pine has seasoned outside over the hot summer then stored undercover.
We test it to be at the right moisture level for sale, so while it may get some rain on it on delivery day and be wet on the outside it still will be good dry burning wood.
We will always be honest on the state of our wood.
Our wood stacks are off the ground so when you buy a load of wood it won't include
dirt or gravel.
When you get your wood delivered the best place to stack it is in a wood shed as this will have plenty of ventilation. Without ventilation wood can get surface mold, while this won't affect burning, it doesn't give you the home and garden hearty wood basket in front of the fire look you may be going for. Stacking along a fence or side of the house is ok too as long as you cover the wood stack with a sheet of corrie or a tarp.
Air circulation is the key. On delivery Tim can answer any questions you may have.
